We, Rajiv=Jaya, Bhawna=Prakash, Vandana=Kaushlendra, Suparna=Manoj, Sanjeev=Shabnam, Taruna=Vikas ; Suprabha-Prasoon, Arushi-Aditi, Ankita-Anupama, Sanskriti-Abhishri, Deepankar, Satwik salute our mother/ grandmother Dr. Shefalika Verma [ Rajni]who was awarded Sahitya Akademi Award 2012 on 20.12.2012, Thursday for her Autobiography entitled Kist Kist Jiwan. Through her life journey full of ups and downs, we learnt the values of love, sacrifice, struggle, patience, toleration, relationship, togetherness, activism, leadership, importance of art, literature, culture and many more. She is rightly known as the Mahadevi of Maithili and Kavya Vinodini. She was born on 9th August, 1943 and at the age of 16, got married to Lalan Kumar Verma popularly known as Prince of Dumra, Saharsa [ son of Kadambari and Surya Narain], a student of Patna Science College and later on a successful lawyer at Saharsa District Court and Patna High Court. She has three devars- Mohan, Sunil and Anil and four nanad – Meena, Renu, Rambha and Indira. Daughter of Annapurna and Brajeshwar, She has six sisters – Deepmalika=Amar, Madhulika=Shankar, Mrinalika= Bijay, Chayanika= Hridaya, Sarika= Pankaj and Niharika= Baidyanath and three brothers- Krishna= Chanda, Sharad=Anu and Asim=Samita. She herself is blessed with two sons and four daughters. She is proficient in many languages and her English poem My Village is taught at school level in England. She has championed the cause of women, her anti-dowry stand is laudable. She is a true representative of women empowerment. She started writing in Maithili in 1961 and received Sahitya Akademi Award in 2012. She has proved herself to be the proud daughter of the land of Mithila. And we feel proud to be her children and grandchildren.
